Published every May for the past decade, albeit under
different names, The Iron Index is designed to watch
how traditional offset-based printers are moving with
technology. It is not purported to be a listing of Canada’s leading
printers because there is no valid methodology to audit
submissions from private companies, while also realizing
several large operations simply will not provide relevant financial
information. That said, for the first time, The Iron Index begins
to include annual revenues – in addition to staffing levels –
to provide more context for investment patterns.
Alongside several of the industry’s most dynamic and large
companies, the pressroom technologies of smaller-sized companies
are eargerly included because they form the heart of Canadian
printing. Each year, The Iron Index adds a handful of new
printers, but it continues to follow a core group of over 300
offset-based printers as they investment further into offset,
electrophotography (digital), inkjet, Management Information
Systems and front-end workflow.
